Flatten the Curve (Mobile / Browser)

Flatten the Curve was developed by myself (Niklas Wirths), Raven Rusch and Manuel Ott as part of the Impact Games module at the Cologne Game Lab.

My work on Flatten the Curve:
Project Lead & Management, Game Design, Level Design, 3D Modeling, Debugging & Testing, Content Creation (Screenshots, Trailers, Presentations).
Flatten the Curve aims at teaching players about pandemic prevention measures and why they are effective and important.
It fits in the category of simulation and management educational games and is able to transfer knowledge about complex systems in a simplified and playful way.

Flatten the Curve is a web based game for PC and mobile.
In Flatten the Curve players manage their available resources and deploy counter measures to stop a virus from spreading. These measures include: Disinfectants, Masks, Testing and Shutting down buildings.

Throughout the simulation players see how infections, deaths and immunities are rising in the graph above.
Players must have an eye on the infected population and make sure they reduce the spread and guide them to seek treatment. Useful data lets the player compare their performance over time.

The simulation shows how these measures take effect, why it's important to flatten the infection curve and challenges the player to use measures in creative and efficient ways.
Each dot in our simulation has a home, a workplace and seeks enjoyment regularly. This combined with 3 age groups that have different needs gives our population a behavior that reminds us of ourselves.
Infected dots need to be tested in order for them to visit a hospital and be treated. It is important to keep infections low so hospitals are not overburdened.
If you act quickly and catch the virus early on the thread can be avoided completely.
